We’re all huge fans of Karina’s surfing here at the factory.

Like a lot of my designs, the High Heel draws inspiration from the New Faithful and the Australian involvement period, but this one has Karina’s personal touch and flavour. Everything about the High Heel is balanced and works together harmoniously.

Probably the best way to describe it is subtle. It touches on all of the classic involvement design features, but does it all in a measured way. It has a nice flowing rocker, a small amount of nose concave, slightly pinched rails and enough roll to get it moving side to side without being a rollercoaster. I think it complements Karina’s light footed approach to surfing, but I’ve ridden my share of High Heels too, and I’ve loved them. Needles to say, I ain’t light footed.

9'8" x 23 1/8" x 3 1/8"

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0725/9095/0712/products/Longboard-9-8-high-heel-6335-top.jpg?v=1681689579
910-step-deck-6312
9'10" Step Deck #6312

Pick Up: San Diego, CA

The Step Deck features a wide Californian style template and a noticeable but subtle step in the deck. While it’s not currently in vogue amongst the team, it’s one of my all-time favourite designs, and I get excited to shape the Step Deck every time an order comes through.

From a design perspective, the step in the deck reduces volume in the front 3rd of the board, which reduces the swing weight when you’re turning from the tail, and also increases the amount of flex when you’re standing on the nose. I’ve found that the flex allows the board to be manipulated by the wave when the wave requires it. If you're perched on the nose and the wave is peeling off real fast, you can push your hips forward, which promotes a forward flex that will help to flatten the nose rocker and increase your speed. Similarly, if you’re in a slow section and your weight is on your heels, or you're hanging five with a gap between your feet, the flex lifts the nose up and makes the board push a little more water, which helps to slow you down. Combine this with a long, blended nose concave and some belly down the back, and the Step Deck becomes a pretty epic noserider. It’s also just a really appealing surfboard aesthetically, and I guess I love designs that are both functional and aesthetically appealing.

9'10" x 23 3/16" x 3 3/16"

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0725/9095/0712/products/Longboard-9-10-step-deck-6312-top.jpg?v=1681695467
55-diamond-twin-5983
5'5" Diamond Twin #5983

Pick Up: San Diego, CA

Another performance take on the Fish with increased rocker and a slightly pulled in diamond tail. It has a slightly fuller rail and is a touch flatter on the bottom that some of our other boards, which makes it a fairly forgiving longboard. It seems to work in any type of wave up to and above head high. It noserides well but I think the most special thing about this board is its flow. It feels natural moving from rail to rail in and out of the pocket, and trims like a dream through fast sections and flat spots. If you want to work on smoothing out your surfing the Town Bike would be a pretty good spot to start. It’s had some successes over the years too, with Zye Norris taking out the Noosa Fest on one, and Deni winning the coveted Deus 9ft and Single back in the day.

It was a fairly high bar that he’d set for me.

He’s picky when it comes to boards, which is why he’s good at giving feedback and getting involved in the design side of things. ‘The Harrison’ is the log Harrison would have if he could only have one - I think he has about 20 but that’s besides the point - it’s his ideal log to cover all conditions. It works well on the points, the beachies, in the wind, when there are waves with power or without… It won him two Duct Tapes and got him to second on the WSL, not bad I reckon.

The Harrison’s prowess on the nose far outweighs its width, which has been known to mislead some on first impressions. The narrow nose combined with a generous nose concave and soft bevelled rail gives the design lift and creates suction up the face - which allows it to hang tighter and higher in the pocket. For this reason the Harrison noserides through steep and fast sections better than most other boards. Growing up in Noosa and surfing its fast, down the line point breaks, speed was a major feature for Harrison. But in saying that, the relatively standard outline through the middle of the board and into the tail means that the Harrison is still a great cruiser log. It’s a user-friendly board even if you’re not chasing the most critical sections in fast waves.

The design’s upturned rail gives an engaged and reliable feel when pushing through turns. With respect to our other designs, it sits between the Keel fish and the Mod Fish. It’s wider than the mod fish, with more of a classic nose template, which we love aesthetically, however, it has a touch more curve from the mid point to the tail thanks to the width. Fish designs are all about personal preference, but this design has surprised us, it seems to toe the ideal line between classic and modern.

5'5" x 19 3/4" x 2 3/8"

29.5L

Pick Up: San Diego, CA

If you’ve been following Thomas Surfboards for any length of time, the Keeper 2.0 doesn’t need much of an explanation. I’m always trying to improve everything, that’s what keeps me inspired as a surfer and a shaper, but what I found with the 2.0 is that rather than improve it, I just made it more approachable and user friendly, which was actually a pleasant surprise. I had my doubts that changing the Keeper would achieve anything positive, but somehow we got there.

The difference between the two designs is very subtle, when it comes down to it, the 2.0 is a fraction fuller in the rail with a wider nose concave and a touch more tail flip, making it a little easier to ride in sloppy and average surf, without going so far as to hinder its feel in perfect peelers.

The 2.0 reignited my stoke for a design that I’ve been making for a long time, and it’s given me slightly different feels and increased responsiveness in some areas, but the main points of feedback have been that it’s more versatile in a wider array of conditions.

Fish designs are all about personal preference, but this design has surprised us, it seems to toe the ideal line between classic and modern.

5'6" x 19 7/8" x 2 3/8"

Pick Up: San Diego, CA

Born out of a desire to push through turns without sacrificing stability, the Moose Knuckle is a fresh feeling, easy to ride, all-rounder. The design came about while working closely with some of our female team riders, and in particular, Mason Schremmer, in the hopes of making a log that was a little more user-friendly for light-footed surfers. It’s perhaps the most approachable log that I’ve designed.
The slightly pulled in square tail makes it feel super responsive turning on the back foot, and the wider nose outline and generous concave means that it maintains an effortless feel on the nose. I guess if the Harrison, Townbike and Keeper had a threesome and created a longboard lovechild, the Moose Knuckle would be it.
After being put through its paces in pumping point breaks, sketchy beaches, perfect Javanese reefs, and of course, grovelly, knee-high slop, the Moose has become a favourite among our team riders and customers. The feedback’s been positive on all accounts, and we're not shitting you, we've seen some of the best slicing cut backs we’ve ever seen from Mason Schremmer on her’s.
A lot of our designs are great noseriders (it's kind of a prerequisite for a longboard) but if you're looking to finesse your positioning and turning, fade takes offs, dropknee turns etc… you might want to consider the Moose Knuckle.

Board Dimensions: 9'4" x 22 13/16" x 2 13/16"

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0725/9095/0712/files/thomas-9_4-Mooseknuckle--8118-top--1.jpg?v=1752190455
96-keeper-20-9012
9'6" Keeper 2.0 #9012

Pick Up: San Diego, CA

After making the Keeper for over a decade, I thought it’d be nice to give the design a little reboot and suss whether I could improve it. I’m always trying to improve everything, that’s what keeps me inspired as a surfer and a shaper, but what I found with the 2.0 is that rather than improve it, I just made it more approachable and user friendly, which was actually a pleasant surprise. A wide nose and square tail provide stability and glide through slower sections, while extra concave and a chamfered edge through the nose help to slow things down and make noseriding more forgiving. The Malibu’s renowned for being a stable, “easy” noserider.

It works best in below knee to head high waves. 50/50 rails through the mid section become more pinched through the tail to keep this board lively through turns.
